From Warfare to Welfare


From Warfare to Welfare (MYGLYW) is an exciting project based in the National Library of Wales that explores life in Wales between 1939 and 1959. Many aspects of everyday life and living in the war zones during this period are presented and encompassed in 3 broad themes:  

  • Leisure and new technology: the effect of rationing during and after the Second World War, the increase in consumer goods and accessibility of leisure activities
  • Work and employment: how the Second World War affected the world of work and the changes in the rural economy in post war Wales
  • Society and politics: national identity and active community engagement in post war Wales
