Upon enlistment every British Soldier was issued with the 'Army Book 64 Soldier's Service and Pay Book'. The book contained specific information about the soldier; his army number, personal ID, training records, employment list, medical data, next of kin identification, last will and testament forms. The book was supposed to be kept on the soldier's person at all times. This book was given to John Pierce Thomas when he enlisted with the forces in 1940. John Pierce Thomas was called up for military service on 15 March 1940 and was in the Service until 1946.
