Eunice Miles joined the WRNS in 1943, when she was 17. She was posted to Argyll, Scotland to work on a mini-submarine base. She worked as a steward in the officers mess, and stayed there for 2 years. She returned to Dale, Haverfordwest, in 1945, to a Fleet Air Arm base, and remained there until she was discharged in 1946. Eunice would have liked to stay in the Navy, but her father was unwilling for her to go overseas. Eunice married in 1946, and came back to Swansea with ther husband. They were allocated a house in Landore, but it had no roof or windows due to bomb damage, and had to be fumigated due to the risk of TB. Lucky to have a house at all, they put up with the discomfort under a tarpaulin roof for some time until repairs could be made.
