Description

Sylvia Oats joined the ATS in 1943, and went to Wrexham to complete her training. She was then posted to Prestatyn, where the army had taken over a holiday camp as a training base. Sylvia worked as a cook, and was very pleased to find she had a chalet to herself. Sylvia was later sent to Longmoor near Petersfield, where she cooked in the ladies' officers' mess, and eventually to a Military Police base at Ashvale near Farnborough. She thouroughly enjoyed the freedom of being away from home, and didn't want to return to Swansea when she was discharged in 1945.
