John Jones at the Swansea Baths & Laundry annual staff outing to Porthcawl, 1930s Item Reference : cny03657
Description
John Jones lived in a flat within the Swansea Baths & Laundry in St.Helen's Road, as his father was the manager. The laundry did a lot of work for soldiers based in the area, and aircrews did rescue practice in the pool with an inflatable dinghy. A bomb landed almost in the entrance to the baths, but did not detonate. It exploded as a Bomb Disposal Crew attempted to deal with it, as it had a time-delay fuse, and the entire crew were killed.
