Postcard dated 24 October while Eric Stephens was a prisoner of war in M'stammlager, Thorn. Eric writes to Dilys, his sweetheart back home, thanking her father for sending him the box of cigarettes. Interestingly a portion of the letter has been censored. All correspondences leaving the camp would have had to have been seen by the camp authorities to check that prisoners were not communicating information they were not allowed to. Eric Stephens was a RAF flight engineer who was with the rest of his crew shot down by the German army while returning from a bombing raid over the Dutch/German border in 1944. After a week on the run he and his crew were captured and became prisoners of war (POWs). Between 1944 and 1945 Eric was moved to three POW camps.
