Description

Captain Hywel Tudor Thomas wrote this letter to his mother from on board ship en route to San Pedro, California. His tone is very gloomy in describing his expectations about the impending war. He expresses his concern that the future will not be guided by what has happened in the past. Interestingly, his own personal wish to see ' Winston Churchill at the head of affairs' and his confidence in ' following him to the hilt' turned out to be what saved Britain in the end. Hywel Tudor Thomas served as a Captain in the Merchant Navy during the Second World War.
