Geoff Charles' photographs from the period 1939-1945 capture the spirit and determination of the people of Wales and the Borders during the Second World War. Although much of his material from this era was destroyed in a fire, the surviving images are a permanent reminder of the war effort on the home front. Despite the harsh socio-economic conditions, the strength and resolve of ordinary communities is reflected in everyday scenes of farming, the Home Guard, domestic life, celebration and recreation.
